Marcela Cardenas and singer/bassist Maria Elvira Escandón formed BATIK
in the early 90's in Bogotá, Colombia. They were recognized for being
one of the most popular "new song" and pop/rock groups in
Columbia, regularly performing in prestigious venues, participating in
renowned musical festivals and making TV appearances.
BATIK received first place in
Colombia's celebrated Jorge Baron Contest, "The New Song
Stars" (1996). They have been drapers for world-renowned
performing artists such as Armando Manzanero and Tania Libertad.
Their style is uniquely their own, fusing contemporary pop, jazz,
tropical and South American folk to create fresh sound. Hence, the
name BATIK, as the painting
technique that lays layers upon layers of colors to form a design of
original blends.
Their first professional demo was recorded in Bogota (1998). The
enclosed demo was produced and arranged in Miami by Amaury Lopez.
BATIK presently performs live
in various venues in the South Florida area such as Meza Fine Art
& Gallery Café in Coral Gables. |
